The work of two professors
in the Radford University
College of Business and
Economics was recently
selected for the Swisscanto
Award for the Best
Professional Paper in
Financial Markets and
Portfolio Management.
Steve Beach, associate professor of finance (top left), and Alex
Orlov, associate professor
of economics (bottom left),
received the award for their
article entitled, “An
Application of the Black-Litterman
Model with EGARCH-M-Derived
Views for International
Portfolio Management.”

A number of the students in
our programs were recognized
for their outstanding
achievements this past year:
• Ms. Cassandra Price
received the Wall Street
Journal Award for academic
excellence at the College
graduation ceremony in May;
she was given an Outstanding
Student Award by the
University President at the
University graduation
ceremony; she was also
recognized as an ESPN the
Magazine and CoSIDA second
team Academic All-District
winner; she received the
George A. Christenberry
Award for Academic
Excellence from the Big
South Conference.
• Ms. Annemijn Van der
Bijl received the
Virginia Society of
Certified Public Accountants
(VSCPA) award and was
recognized as the
Outstanding Senior in
Accounting at our College
graduation ceremony in May;
she was given an Outstanding
Student Award by the
University President at the
University graduation
ceremony.
• Mr. Joseph Wildt, a
graduate of the Honors
Program, was recognized as
the Outstanding Senior in
Finance at our College
graduation ceremony; he was
also given an Outstanding
Student Award by the
University President at the
University graduation
ceremony.
• Mr. Chris Pertl, a
Kirk’s Scholar and President
of SMIPO, was the recipient
of the Dean’s Award as the
Outstanding Senior in the
College of Business and
Economics at our Graduation
ceremony in May.
• Mr. Mehdi Benhammou
was named to the Big South
All-Academic team; he was
the top-ranked male
student-athlete at Radford
University (based on GPA);
Named All-Conference in both
singles and doubles.
• Jeffrey Rash was
designated as an outstanding
governmental accounting
student and received a
scholarship from the VGFOA.
• Amanda Murphy was
designated as an outstanding
governmental accounting
student and received a
scholarship from the VGFOA.
She was also designated as
the outstanding rising
senior in accounting and was
awarded the Lanigan, Ryan,
Malcolm and Doyle
scholarship.
• Derek Bayless was
designated as the
outstanding rising junior in
accounting and was awarded
the Lanigan, Ryan, Malcolm
and Doyle scholarship.
